At approximately 1315 on November 29th, Bryn Mawr Fire Company, along with units from stations 21, 24, 25 and 26, was dispatched the the 1500 block of Old Gulph Road for a building fire with a report of flames from the roof and heavy smoke. On arrival crews from Ladder 23 and Engine 24 found a 2.5 story home with heavy smoke showing from the exterior and heavy smoke conditions on the third floor of the interior. An initial attack on the third floor by the first in crew found fire in the knee walls, floor and ceilings. A second line was put in service on the floor below and roof ventilation followed. Crews experienced challenging conditions of high heat and near zero visibility during the fire attack in an old house with very small spaces and older style construction materials. Crews from across Lower Merion Township fire companies as well as George Clay and Conshohocken worked together to quickly extinguish the fire and preserve much of the historic home. Crews were available just after 16:00.
